All About Woodsure
The need for woodfuel standards | The importance of a quality fuel supply chain | Introducing the Woodsure Certification Scheme.
Woodsure is a not-for-profit organisation, striving to raise the quality of woodfuel in the industry. The Woodsure certification scheme and its logo shows woodfuel users the suppliers and products that they can trust.
The team have extensive experience in the woodfuel industry and constantly evolve to keep pace with this rapidly developing sector.
What do we do?
The Woodsure Certification scheme comprehensively checks woodfuel producers to ensure that they produce and supply woodfuel to the correct standard.
In order to avoid sub-standard fuel and the problems it causes, Woodsure Certification tests the products to EN and Önorm standards for woodfuel quality, which are the requirements that boiler manufacturers and installers specify their customers to use.
What does this mean for customers?
Customers purchasing from a Woodsure certified producer can be assured that the producer has been checked and tested, and have demonstrated they are able to produce and supply a quality product. The Woodsure logo enables consumers to easily identify whether fuel is of an appropriate standard for their boiler systems.
Origins of the Woodsure scheme
Woodsure emerged from the experience of Harvey Shopfitters Limited when the company undertook a project to process timber offcuts from its extensive workshop, fit-out and construction activities into shredded woodfuel to be provided as a free resource to schools.
During the course of this project it became apparent that the broader woodfuel industry, together with its growing market of clients, would benefit from a nationally recognised and authoritative quality standard that was comprehensive and rigorous, yet one that could be implemented without placing an undue administrative burden upon producers and suppliers.
Moreover, such a scheme would be a valuable focus for providing information, guidance and advice to woodfuel producers and suppliers, enabling them to improve their product, while encouraging greater consistency across the sector.
To fulfil this need Harvey Shopfitters set up the Woodsure scheme, wholly funding its formation and development, and continuing to meet its operating costs to date, as part of the company’s environmental commitment.
Woodsure is now a wholly owned subsidiary of HETAS.
