Pellets
Compressed biofuel made from pulverised biomass, usually in a cylindrical form, random length typically 5-30mm.
Compressed biofuel made from pulverised biomass, usually in a cylindrical form, random length typically 5-30mm. They are generally made from sawmill residues or low grade roundwood from forests. Their uniform nature means they are an excellent fuel for automatic heating systems which can be set by a thermostat or ignited via an app when required.
Most wood pellets in the UK are 6mm in diameter as feed systems for domestic boilers usually prefer them to be between 5mm and 40mm long. Other parameters that are checked are mechanical durability, percentage of fines, bulk density, ash, moisture content, calorific value and the percentage of additives.
Poor quality pellets can lead to blockages, feed issues, clinkering of ash and boiler breakdown.
