Overview of Woodsure Schemes

In the table below you will find a brief overview of the Woodsure schemes, including our fuel quality schemes and the Ready to Burn scheme, which we administer on behalf of Defra.

Self Supplier – Domestic & Non-Domestic | *For those who are registered on the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) as Self Suppliers in a domestic setting, i.e private dwellings, or non-domestic setting, i.e farms | Particle size/log size, moisture content, chemical analysis (briquettes) | Throughout the UK | 1st June, wood fuel used to claim RHI must meet fuel quality standards. The Woodsure schemes allow registrants to demonstrate fuel quality in line with legislation. | May not be required following a risk-based assessment of the application |
Woodsure | For those who are producing and/or trading woodfuels and registered on the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL), or those who are wishing to join Woodsure to demonstrate fuel quality | Particle size/log size, moisture content, chemical analysis (briquettes) | Throughout the UK | 1st June, wood fuel used to claim RHI must meet fuel quality standards. The Woodsure schemes allow registrants to demonstrate fuel quality in line with legislation. | Site audit in the first year of registration |
Ready to Burn (Administered by Woodsure on behalf of Defra) | For those who are selling or trading firewood | Moisture content process | England | Everyone selling less than 2m³ must be certified as Ready to Burn. Those supplying volumes of more than 2m³ do not need to be certified as Ready to Burn, however advice must be given with each sale on how to dry the product before use and the environmental impact of burning wet wood. | Site audit in the first year of registration and point of sale checks are undertaken annually |
* Please note that the fuel should not be sold to those who are claiming the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
